Chotto Matte’s new Manchester outpost brings its signature fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine to the city’s skyline, marking the brand’s first UK venture outside London. Sitting atop the St Michael’s development, this rooftop restaurant delivers an energetic and immersive dining experience, where bold design meets vibrant flavours.
The menu showcases the art of Nikkei cooking, blending the precision of Japanese techniques with the punchy zest of Peruvian ingredients. Diners find delights like sea bass ceviche with leche de tigre, spicy tuna sushi rolls, anticucho BBQ and robata-grilled meats, all crafted from hormone-free, non-GMO produce. Drinks are equally inventive - the Tokyo to Lima cocktail collection pairs perfectly with the menu, offering playful, colourful creations that reflect Chotto Matte’s cross-cultural ethos.
Designed by celebrated architect Andy Martin, the interiors channel Manchester’s urban spirit with lava stone textures, graffiti-inspired art and a theatrical open sushi counter where chefs torch dishes tableside. At the heart of the kitchen is the robata grill, adding both flavour and flair to the experience. Panoramic city views spill out from the terrace, dotted with fire pits and stylish seating that flow effortlessly from day into night.
Founded by Kurt Zdesar, former European director of Nobu, Chotto Matte first opened in London in 2013 and now spans the globe with locations in Miami, Toronto, Doha and San Francisco. Manchester joins this collection as a bold new chapter, bringing immersive design and high-octane Nikkei dining to one of the UK’s most dynamic culinary cities.
Whether it’s the striking interiors, standout flavours or rooftop vibes, Chotto Matte Manchester offers more than just dinner - it’s a sensory journey through the vibrant world of Nikkei cuisine
