About

Established in 1982, Café Pacifico was London’s first Mexican restaurant and tequila bar, bringing a lively dose of Latin spirit to the heart of Soho. With over four decades of hospitality under its belt, this much-loved cantina continues to serve up vibrant Mexican dishes, tequila-forward cocktails and warm, friendly service.

Inside, the space is colourful, eclectic and full of character. Expect industrial lighting, pops of red, yellow and blue, bright murals and Mexican-inspired artwork on the walls. Neon signs and a long central bar add to the fun, buzzy vibe, while outdoor seating offers a welcome spot to soak up the atmosphere on warmer days.

The menu is packed with bold, authentic flavours, prepared fresh in-house using sustainable ingredients. Starters include crispy empanadas, nachos, chicken quesadillas and fresh guacamole. For mains, you’ll find classics like the burrito special, cheesy chimichangas topped with crema Mexicana and guacamole, and sizzling fajitas with your choice of chicken, beef or vegetables. The street tacos come five to a plate, filled with the likes of pibil-style pork, crispy sea bass or grilled vegetables, served with charro beans and smoky chipotle salsa.

Chef’s specials include confit duck tacos in mole and birria tacos made with slow-cooked beef, melted cheese and a rich chilli sauce. Vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options are available, and desserts such as churros with spicy chocolate sauce and pastel de tres leches round things off perfectly.

Behind the bar, you’ll find a dedicated tequila and mezcal menu, award-winning Margaritas, cocktails, Mexican beers and more. Group dining is available for eight or more, making Café Pacifico a top choice for birthdays, and get-togethers with friends, family or colleagues.

Big cues for tables. All the dishes taste the same. Too much cheddar cheese thrown over everything…Wahaca is 100 times better than Cafe Pacifico

With a table larger than two you'll be waiting a few minutes, but the food is more than worth it. Portion sizes are large and most courses cost around £10. This restaurant is famous for its margaritas, but be warned – a pitcher will double the cost of your meal! The restaurant is always busy and has a lively atmosphere, which makes it difficult to converse at times, but the service is generally speedy and the food is honestly the best Mexican I've ever tasted. I can thoroughly recommend the Chimichanga, which comes with beef or chicken. Delicious.

Café Pacifico in Covent Garden is the best place for tasty genuine Tex-Mex in London. At peak times it’s almost impossible to walk in off the street and get a table and they don’t take bookings, but most people are more than happy to while away the wait for a table with a highly alcoholic cocktail from the bar. Decor is themed and conditions can be cramped, but the fresh, high quality, reasonably priced food consisting of all the usual Tex-Mex suspects cooked extremely well and relatively fast, more than make up for this. The pico de gallo spicy tomato dip accompanying the complimentary nacho chips is very hot but delicious!
