Less than an hour from London by train, Brighton is a popular destination. The seafront is packed with bars, restaurants, nightclubs and amusement arcades, John Nash’s Royal Pavilion is a major draw, and visitors descend on the city each May for the Brighton Festival, the second-largest arts festival in the UK (after Edinburgh). In June most years, local resident Fatboy Slim puts on his Big Beach Bootique, while the annual Gay Pride carnival is held in Preston Park in August. As Brighton has blossomed into the UK's most trendy city by the sea, a thriving food culture has developed. Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival (every April and September) is the largest of its kind in the south east, there’s a burgeoning independent coffee-shop scene (Café Coho), Terre a Terre is the pick of the city’s vegetarian restaurants and The Restaurant at Drakes hits the top spot for restaurants in Brighton.
