About

Blanchette Soho brings the charm of a Parisian neighbourhood bistro to the heart of central London. Located on D’Arblay Street, this intimate French restaurant is known for its warm service, relaxed atmosphere and modern approach to classic bistro cooking. It’s a great choice for date nights, family meals, birthday celebrations and special occasions.

Inside, Blanchette blends rustic charm with Parisian style. Exposed brick walls, framed artwork, vintage mirrors and trailing plants create a characterful backdrop, while tiled floors, marble-topped tables and mellow lighting add to the bistro feel. The space is compact yet inviting, making it ideal for relaxed dining throughout the day.

The Blanchette menu features an a la carte selection alongside a two or three-course lunch and pre-theatre set menu. Starters include charcuterie boards, pork terrine with mustard and cornichons and sea bream crudo with grapefruit and chilli basil oil. The set menu features dishes such as butternut squash velouté followed by lentils with red beans, corn ragout and fried egg, with desserts like poire belle Helene with chantilly cream.

There’s also a daily plat du jour, which has previously featured a 400g pork chop, served with pomme purée, cornichons grenobloise - a tangy, bistro-style sauce typical of Grenoble in southeastern France.

Sharing dishes are a highlight, including whole bream with capers, olives and lemon, moules mariniere, chateaubriand with peppercorn sauce and lamb rump. Classic sides such as frites, green bean salad, and lettuce with chive and lemon dressing complete the offering. The drinks list includes cocktails, spirits, soft drinks and an extensive wine selection.

With its thoughtful cooking and easy-going charm, Blanchette Soho remains a welcoming spot for French dining in the heart of central London.

Our favourite place to eat and drink in London. Always the best atmosphere and the music is paired perfection. Food and drinks are insanely good for an independent restaurant, you can beat it in Soho it's such a gem! Modern french with a twist.

Chic rustique
Blanchette does a pretty damn good job at making French food cool. The restaurant, located in trendy Soho, is about as far away from one’s traditional perceptions of the gastronomic experience a la Francaise as possible. In my childhood, French cooking was mostly considered the apogee of the culinary world, typically served by snooty waiters who looked down their noses at diners whom they had the privilege of serving. An alternative perception would be more along the lines of the haphazard café operated by René in ‘Allo ‘Allo. Blanchette is neither of these. While the interior of the restaurant does have rustic charm along the lines of a more traditional French bistro, the music is cool, the servers attractive and attentive and the menu simple yet innovative. Our group of five enjoyed every moment of a recent dinner and would certainly return. To begin, our table shared a number of starters. Each pleased, but of particular note would be the Blanchette take on frogs’ legs. This was a long way from the slightly unpleasant experience vaguely reminiscent of chicken and often drowned in a garlic cream sauce that I recall from French establishments in days gone-by. Here, the legs were lightly cooked in breadcrumbs and then dipped in Bois Boudran sauce, a slightly spice version of ketchup. Presentation and interpretation throughout was innovative. I opted for a grilled pork belly as my main, wonderfully juicy and succulent. My comrades all praised their choices too and as a benchmark test for any French restaurant, Blanchette’s steak was given full marks by one of our group. We finished with a lovely selection of cheeses, all interesting and full of flavour. With keen prices across the board (including a very satisfying Cote du Rhone at £32/bottle), there is little not to like.

what a find
Just visited this place for the first time today and what a gem it is. Fabulous small plates ideal for sharing. Amazing flavours, Daube of pig cheeks a highlight. Great wine list: short, uncomplicated, and plenty available by the glass or carafe. Max the owner knows what he's doing. Cannot wait to return.
