Bill’s Restaurant can always be trusted to provide diners with a laid-back space to enjoy an early morning coffee, relaxed brunch or casual date night. The Newbury restaurant is on Market Place, and is open from 8am, except on Sundays, when the doors open an hour later. Here, your four-legged friends are always invited, and they’ve even got their very own menu. There are beef and berry bites, salmon and avocado or chicken and sweet potato. If it's a sweet treat your fur baby is after, choose a pot of vanilla ice cream for dogs, or the pink woofin' – a light vanilla sponge with yoghurt frosting and decorated with a crunchy doggy bone biscuit.
But back to the human food – and there’s plenty to choose from. Enjoy a light breakfast of granola with tropical fruits (banana, mango and passion fruit) or the garden plate, filled with two poached eggs, halloumi, roasted plum tomatoes, charred red peppers, smashed avocado, mushrooms, pea shoots and more. Pancakes are pretty popular at Bill's, and you can choose from three or five buttermilk pillows of heaven, depending on how hungry you are. Toppings include smoked streaky bacon, Biscoff crumb with maple and banana, and berries with whipped cream.
The set menu is available from Monday through to Friday, served from 11.30am until close, and you can choose from two or three courses. Starters include fried halloumi cheese with chilli honey and nigella seeds, chicken and sesame dumplings, and crispy calamari. Next up, the mains always impress, with BBQ corn ribs in a spicy sauce with fries, chargrilled minute steak with rosemary salted fries, and a smoked mackerel salad with mint yoghurt. Last but not least, there are some gorgeous desserts, including a lemon meringue pie sundae with whipped vanilla cream, oaty crumble and lemon sorbet.
