Best restaurants in Newquay

It’s all about big portions of British pub classics at this old-school boozer which overlooks the harbour. Visit during the week for a burger and a pint of local ale or head down on a Sunday to try one of the generous roasts.

Situated just a short drive from Newquay, The Traveller’s Rest is a charming pub dating back to the 17th century. Expect inventive takes on pub classics, like salt haddock scotch eggs with smashed lemon minted peas, and locally brewed ales. 

Found inside the Bedruthan Hotel in nearby Mawgan Porth, Ogo is a modern restaurant serving an inventive set menu. Expect dishes including smoked venison tartlet with celeriac and Jerusalem artichoke, and braised salsify, forced rhubarb and foraged herbs. We'd recommend booking a room to stay overnight in the lovely hotel afterwards.

Named after a nearby rock formation, this swanky modern restaurant found inside the Watergate Bay Hotel features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea, a terrace for al fresco dining and a menu which showcases Cornish produce. The hotel offers special swim and dine packages, where you can work up an appetite in our 25m sea-view infinity swimming pool before you dine.

This 16th century thatched inn is one of those places that only locals know about. Pay a visit to sample an easy-going menu of pub classics made with fresh, local produce. It also boasts a regularly rotating selection of local beers, a cracking beer garden and its own dedicated pizza kitchen.

Located on Newquay’s most famous beach, the Fish House Fistral is all about fresh fish, wonderful sea views, and a chilled-out vibe. Pop in for a fish finger sandwich at lunch or come for something more substantial at dinner, then head down to the beach for a nice walk.

Things are kept classy at this slick, sophisticated restaurant inside the luxurious Atlantic Hotel; think Champagne buckets in every corner and pressed white table cloths. As well as its ever-changing seasonal food menu, Silks also serves an affordable afternoon tea.

You’ll feel like you’re dangling over the sea when dining at Lewinnick Lodge thanks to its cliff-edge location on Pentire Headland. This hotel restaurant serves everything from a hearty breakfast to a varied international dinner menu. Catching an early morning sunrise here with a little breakfast is a great idea. 

Adam Handling continues to expand into the south west with this slick Newquay-adjacent gastropub. Handling’s chef pedigree is second to none, and he brings his signature style and precision to gastropub grub here, with dishes like hake with white beans and chicken butter sauce, and a killer fish and chips. It’s worth a trip to walk around the beautiful gardens, and for the excellent Sunday lunch.

Freshly made pizzas and hefty burgers are the order of the day at WAX, which overlooks Newquay’s popular Watergate Bay. Leave space for a tempting dessert such as an ice cream sundae or chocolate brownie. WAX often has live music on too, so this is great for those who like a bit of soundtrack to their dinner.

Counter Culture is two restaurants in one - a gorgeous 16-seater spot focused on fresh seafood and Cornish produce, and a more relaxed pintxos bar where you can snack on tempura anchovies padron peppers and patatas bravas. It's worth a visit for excellent cocktails too, and beers which come from nearby Atlantic Brewery & Distillery.

This sustainably-conscious cocktail bar is the place to go for a good night out. With over 120 spirits to choose from, as well as a curated list of classic, original and ‘giggle’ cocktails (the latter are made with Champagne), it’s the perfect place to head for a first date, special occasion or catch up with friends.

St. Ives loss is Newquay's gain, as Adam Handling relocated Ugly Butterfly to The Headland Hotel in 2025. When you combine one of the UK's very best chefs with some of its greatest produce, it's no surprise that the results are spectacular. The flexible ‘4x4’ menu lets guests build their own meal, exploring the best Cornish produce, whilst the al fresco terrace boasts a separate seafood-led menu.
