Base Face Pizza Richmond brings Base Face’s slow-proved, Napolitan-style pizza to leafy Richmond, where you’ll find it on Kew Road, just minutes from Richmond Park.
Originally conceived by founder and jazz bassist Tim Thornton, Base Face Pizza started life and a lockdown driveway pop-up, before sheer popularity drove it to become a perennially busy, multi-location pizzeria, with sister locations in nearby Barnes and Putney.
Tim’s pizzas are built around slow-fermented dough, made using healthy grains and using local producers for all the toppings. All the flour comes from Shipton Mill in the Cotswolds, and fresh mozzarella and burrata comes from La Latteria in Acton, with fresh cheese coming from lots of other British producers. You’ll even see drinks from the likes of Battersea’s Mondo Brewery, and desserts from Happy Endings Ice Cream.
The pizzas are the main attraction of course, and you’ll find a combination of classics and some more inventive ideas on a compact menu that celebrates British produce. Alongside classics like a margherita and a ham and mushroom, there’s the ‘Truffle Shuffle’, made with a truffle crema base, roast mushrooms and mozzarella, as well as the popular ‘Manjamo 3.0’, which combines spicy ‘nduja sausage with house-made jalapeno jam, red onion and mozzarella.
Base Face really is all about the pizza experience but you have a few additional options for before and after, including olives, dough sticks with garlic butter and a buffalo caprese salad to start, and a clotted cream or pistachio tiramisu to finish. There’s also an excellent kids deal, where your little ones get a pizza, a drink, and a scoop of ice cream for just a tenner!
