About

If you find yourself in Birmingham and in the mood for a slice of sleek luxury, head to The Restaurant Bar & Grill Bank Birmingham, located in an iconic building on Brindleyplace, making it perfect for occasions, events, and a day of treating yourself. Should you be visiting on a sunny day, dine alfresco on one of the two terraces with canal views.

Appetisers and nikkei are first on the menu, with small plate offers of Jersey rock oysters, freshly baked sourdough, angus beef tataki and spicy yellowfin tuna tartare with grapefruit, ginger, soy and sesame, with prawn crackers and wasabi mayonnaise. The sharing nikkei experience is a board stacked with a selection of all of the premium raw dishes available individually, presented on a platter of dry ice and perfectly paired with a selection of exquisite dressings and garnishes. Then the starters, which truly have something for everyone. There are truffle and leek croquettes with truffle aioli, matured Italian cheese and chives, a bowl of crispy fried chilli squid with Thai herbs, noodle salad and sweet chilli, and marinated Korean fried chicken with Korean spices, sesame and Gochujang soy sauce. In the mood for something light? Order the crispy duck salad with watercress, white radish, sugar snap peas, spring onion, beansprouts, red chilli, coriander, mint, honey, sesame and soy. A bowl of true delight! There's a long list of steaks and sharing steaks, along with picks from the ocean like the roast monkfish with crushed new potatoes, watercress and aged balsamic.

Those who never skip out on a sweet treat will love the dessert menu, which features buttermilk panna cotta with passion fruit coulis, mango and toasted coconut, and a warm chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream and shortbread crumb.

Complete Let Down

We booked a table for 6 at this restaurant to celebrate our wedding at the end of April. We had made the reservation in February and rang 3 times to confirm it, mentioning that it was a wedding, an important event, and they acknowledged this.
On the day of the wedding we had a phone call a few minutes before we arrived to say that they didn’t have a table for us! They had opened up the back terrace but it had rained and they had to give away our table to accommodate the tables being moved from the back to the front of the restaurant. We could not believe what we were hearing. We went to see them as we were only minutes away and after airing my dissatisfaction (to say the least), they found us a table. By this time it had soured the meal somewhat even though we tried not to let it spoil the day. (They did try to make amends by giving a free bottle of Prosecco). As if this wasn’t bad enough, 4 of the 6 meals were awful, steak was tough, risotto was bland, burgers were tasteless. We didn’t complain at the time as we didn’t want to spoilt the atmosphere. When we did ring up to complain a few days later we were told that the manager would get back to us. Twice we’ve been promised a call back and twice it hasn’t happened, this sums up the service of the restaurant, not what I would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. All in all a complete disaster from start to finish.
