They say that curry is the national dish of the UK, such is our love for this authentic Indian dish. But, when was the last time you tried a truly elevated, not to mention authentic, take on this favourite? Indus is a luxury Indian restaurant in the heart of Birmingham, found on the fourth floor of the Park Regis Birmingham hotel.
Every Tuesday to Saturday evening, the Indus team welcome diners to try their carefully-constructed menu, curated by in-house chefs with backgrounds hailing from India, and plenty of experience with the cuisine's traditional flavours and cooking methods. The kitchen team is led by Head Chef Manish Patel who has tonnes of experience working in five star hotels across India and who has worked hard to create an a la carte menu that reflects the pan-Asian plates you'll find across this sub-continent.
First up, why not try a starter like the iconic chicken tikka, marinated in chef’s secret spices and cooked in a clay oven. Or, dig into some Northern Indian street food, like fish pakora served with mint sauce, or papri chaat, which are crispy wheat tortillas with coriander marinated potato and chickpea salad.
Moving onto mains and you can't go wrong with Delhi butter chicken in creamy tomato gravy, alongside Goan-style marinated haddock fish, simmered in coconut milk and toddy vinegar, or Makhani daal with black lentils and kidney beans slow cooked overnight with tomatoes, cream and butter.
If you're partial to dessert, you won't be dissapointed by the sweet selection here. We like the sound of the deep fried dough balls coated with rose flavour sugar syrup and served with vanilla ice cream or the homemade pistachio ice cream served with peacans, praline brittle and caramel sauce.
There's also a new set menu to get excited about, which offers two courses for a budget-friendly price and make sure you look out for curry club, which happens every Thursday.
