Bab Tooma brings the warmth, flavour, and hospitality of Syria to Leeds, offering an authentic dining experience that’s rich in tradition and heart. Named after the historic Gate of Saint Thomas in Damascus, this vibrant restaurant is more than just a place to eat - it’s a cultural bridge, celebrating the unity and diversity of Syrian society through food.
Founded by Eyad Charbatji, Bab Tooma is the first authentic Syrian restaurant in West Yorkshire, with its Leeds location continuing the legacy of its beloved Bradford flagship. The menu is a tribute to generations of family recipes, lovingly passed down and crafted with care. Expect hand-picked ingredients, bold spices, and dishes that evoke the aromas and flavours of a Damascus kitchen.
The interiors reflect the restaurant’s heritage, with Arabian decor that transports diners to the heart of the Levant. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, with attentive service that makes every visit feel like coming home.
Guests can enjoy a wide array of Middle Eastern classics, from tender grilled meats and fragrant rice dishes to creamy hummus, fresh salads, and warm, pillowy flatbreads. Every plate is designed to be shared, making Bab Tooma a perfect spot for communal dining with friends and family. Tuck into a selection of hot and cold mezze plates to start, with everything from fattoush salad with a sumac-lemon dressing to charcoal-grilled slices of halloumi and musakaa with tomatoes and onions. House specialities and charcoal grills provide the main event, with dishes such as lamb shank mandi served with okra in tomato sauce, and grilled lamb chops with your choice of side.
Bab Tooma is a celebration of Syrian culture, cuisine, and community. Whether you're discovering Middle Eastern food for the first time or reconnecting with familiar flavours, this restaurant offers a soulful, satisfying experience that lingers long after the last bite.
