Burgers, ‘dogs, milkshakes and ribs, what could be more American? Bop your way into this American-style diner and swing right into the fifties with its vibrant red and white colour scheme, café tables and jukebox playing the perfect hits for you to break out your best jitterbug dance moves and feel like you’ve stepped out of a movie.
Before you take a step inside, have a photo op with the King of Rock himself (we think an Elvis replica is close enough) to set the mood. Once inside, everything about the décor screams American diner, from the chequered floor tiles to the red and white sofas and bar stools, making it feel like an authentic diner experience. The exposed roof beams are covered in American number plates and you can spot US knickknacks all over the place, from flags to candy on the counters, pictures on the walls and a Route 66 sign. You’ll be singing the star spangled banner and walk out with an American twang if you aren’t careful.
The food itself ticks every classic US-style dining box, with jumbo chicken wings, fries, hot dogs crammed with onions, indulgent burgers, sandwiches and a range of diner-esque desserts. Pop by Arnolds American Diner from midday and be immersed in the American experience, open until 9pm.
Ease in with the crispy halloumi fries with a cranberry dipping sauce. Arnold claims his BBQ pork ribs are the best in Hertfordshire, but pick from the two generous serving sizes and you can be the judge of that. If you’re really hungry, tuck into the 12oz Arnold burger with double patties, double bacon and quadruple cheese. The sandwiches are also a winner with the double-stacked Mississippi meaty being a great choice. If you have space for more, the desserts on offer include ice cream sundaes, the Brooklyn brownie, Belgium waffles and ice cream cones from Arnolds’ own soft serve machine.
There is also the #ArnoldChallengedMe eating challenge on the cards where you can attempt to gobble down 18 pancakes and a milkshake in just 25 minutes – good luck with that!
