Call Amarone to make a booking on:
Housed in a cavernous former bank building on the corner of George Street and St Andrews Square, this 200-cover, city-centre Italian is a good one-stop shop for anything from breakfast and proper
cappuccino to pizzas and traditional trattoria food. Local workers, shoppers and tourists pile in for views of the open kitchen and a vast selection of reasonably priced food. As well as 15
different pizzas and 13 pastas (rigatoni with crumbled Italian sausage and ricotta, ravioli filled with roasted peppers and goats’ cheese, pennette with porcini etc) there’s also a roster of dishes
ranging from beef carpaccio and minestrone soup to char-grilled veal cutlets, steaks, or tiger prawns in a cream sauce on black tagliolini. Not surprisingly, the list of mainly Italian wines
features a handful of classy vintage Amarones.
