Whisk yourself away to the beautiful streets of central Milan when paying a visit to Amarone, an authentic and buzzing Italian located on George Street in Edinburgh. This beautiful restaurant is filled with marble floors, rich wooden tones and the noise of steam hissing from the traditional coffee machine.
The a la carte menu is served from 12pm and begins with antipasti options of homemade minestrone soup with San Marzano tomatoes and sourdough bread, breaded and crisp fried mozzarella with a tomato sugo and pecorino romano, and carpaccio of prime Scottish beef topped with rocket, shaved grana padano and truffle oil. Duck liver pate with golden fig marmalade, tarragon oil and crostini is another favourite on the menu, along with rich baby squid ragu with leccino olives, garlic, white wine and sun dried tomatoes.
It wouldn't be an authentic Italian experience without plenty of pasta, and Amarone has a great deal for you to choose from. The spaghetti alla vongole is made with fresh Scottish clams, garlic, chilli, olive oil and parsley, and then there's the traditional lasagna with beef ragu, and a slow cooked Italian sausage gnocchi with creamy nduja with white wine, cavolo nero sauce, crispy pancetta and caprino cheese.
If pizza is more your thing, choose the pizza ortolana with San Marzano tomato sugo, fior di latte mozzarella, grilled courgettes, aubergine, mixed peppers, basil and extra virgin olive oil for a veggie delight. Classics like a margherita, ham and mushroom and pepperoni are also on the menu. Meat dishes include marinated and grilled chicken bread with a herb crumb, rich tarragon sauce, fondant potatoes, spinach and pine nuts, pecorino and chilli.
