Found in the heart of West Sussex, Orchid House is a family run restaurant and bar with rooms that offers an elegant space and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Just a stone’s throw from Worthing beach, it’s ideally located for day trips and seaside escapes, with afternoon tea providing the perfect excuse to recuperate back at the venue.
The afternoon tea at Orchid House is all about showcasing seasonal ingredients, and celebrating the best of what the UK has to offer. You can expect all of the traditional elements of an afternoon tea, with freshly made sandwiches, cakes, scones, teas and even champagnes if you fancy your meal with a glass of fizz. Whilst the menu changes regularly, you can expect options like salmon, capers and dill cream cheese sandwiches and sausage rolls, as well as sweet treats such as red velvet macarons or apple cake to feature on the menu - all of which are made in house.
The kitchen is run by mother and daughter team Ashee and Alex, who have combined their years of experience to bring Orchid House to life. You can expect most things to be made from scratch - from jams and chutneys to kimchi and sauerkraut - but the passion for food goes beyond cooking, with the chefs also tending to the kitchen garden, or foraging for ingredients, reflecting the team’s ethos of using local and sustainable. Any ingredients that are sourced elsewhere, are bought from local suppliers to support nearby businesses.
The interiors are simple and sophisticated, yet still maintain character from the property’s original features. The main dining room is surrounded by large windows that allow natural light to flood in during the day, and plenty of mood lighting through candles and lamps for after the sun goes down.
