SquareMeal Review of
Yard Sale Pizza Leytonstone
Established by three friends in an actual back yard, the original Clapton branch of this lo-fi neighbourhood mini-chain gained fame as the unannounced venue for the UK debut of Macaulay Culkin’s covers band. Luckily, the quality of Yard Sale’s punningly named stone-baked pizzas has sustained the public’s interest since then. Made with double-fermented dough, the 12-inch or 18-inch bases come with a variety of classic and eccentric toppings, from a simple margherita made with fior di latte to a flavour-bomb involving smoked pig’s cheeks with roasted pineapple, pickled pink onions and Pollock-esque spatterings of red and green salsas. It’s also worth looking out for location-specific specials: the Walthamstow branch, for example, serves a weekend brunch featuring garlicky pizzas with dippy egg and optional Marmite. If you can’t get a seat in the diner-style pizzeria itself, head to the equally popular takeaway counter.
