SquareMeal Review of
‘Glaswegian heart, German head’ is the motto of this microbrewery, bar and restaurant within the Templeton building – a converted 19th-century carpet factory with a facade modelled on the Doge’s
Palace in Venice. As the slogan suggests, this is an avowedly German-style venture when it comes to brewing: St Mungo lager, Hefeweizen wheat beer, Munich Red, King Tuts and the like are all
produced in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) – although other tipples are also available. The interior is a decked out like a modern ‘bierhalle’, with big tables and a
menu offering bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, spätzle and pork knuckle with sauerkraut alongside wings, burgers and steaks. Regular comedy nights and lounge music pull the crowds, and there’s a beer
garden overlooking Glasgow Green for alfresco supping (weather permitting).
