SquareMeal Review of
We Are Bar
Packed from day one (in September 2016), We Are Bar features a long, covered, heated terrace overlooking busy Bishopsgate. Inside is an equally crowded, and rather clattery, double-height 1950s-style lounge. Cocktails from under £7 partially explain the attraction, as does a wine list that encompasses punchy heavyweight South African Shiraz/Mourvèdre (£19) and Flash Harry fizz, Dom Pérignon (£175). Chipper staff and banging Balearic beats until 2am at weekends are also, self-evidently, what the City has been longing for – a fact not unnoticed by the bar’s corporate owners, whose brands also include Jamies Wine Bars and Smollensky’s. Pick of the mixes are Salted Caramel (a creamy Kraken spiced rum and Licor 43 Flip), and Peach White Negroni (with Tanqueray gin, peach vermouth and Suze). No-frills grub includes sharing boards, ciabattas, burgers and main courses such as grilled salmon with white bean and garlic mash (£12).
