Vivo 045 (Small) (Medium)

SquareMeal Review of Vivo

The bar formerly known as Amber has been reinvented with a Latin vibe as Vivo, by the people behind Alphabet & Cantaloupe. In truth, the laid-back duplex doesn’t feel a million miles away from its previous incarnation, attracting a mixed bag of Soho bohos & curious passers-by with its offer of mojitos & beers such as Peruvian star Cusqueña, Estrella Galicia & Sagres, all of which are discounted before 8pm as part of happy hour. Other drinks include Cava & a choice of chilled sherries, as well as sangria & cocktails for under £6 – Pisco sour, Negroni & fruity caipirinhas are worth a try. Iberian & South American wines predominate: try Alaia, a small-estate red from Léon: a steal at £17. To eat there’s a useful range of tapas, steaks & mains like swordfish or moqueca, the traditional Brazilian seafood casserole. In the candlelit basement you can groove to DJs spinning Brazilian & Latin house.
