We know that our pub dates back to the 1800s, when it was called “The Black Horse“. Horses were originally kept here to pull the barges and lighters along the River Great Ouse between Bedford, Cambridge and the port at King’s Lynn. Renovated in 2010-11, the pub was re-christened by the new owners as “The Swan” and changing hands in 2012, it became the “Swan on the River”.
Owned by Richard Oyarzabal and Frank Burrow since December 2013, the aim of our establishment is simple – a quality pub serving exceptional food with a British theme. We offer a modern and bright place to eat and drink, as well as all the character you’d find in a classic English country pub. The bar is informal and welcoming and our newly refurbished ‘Riverside Room’ is an ideal place to eat and drink in comfort. Summertime provides a wonderful opportunity for relaxing by the river with a Pimm’s and watching the world go by. In the winter months, our cosy indoor atmosphere is ideal for sitting by the roaring log fire with a pint of real ale, or a relaxing coffee. With our extensive menu of predominantly British dishes, created by our talented kitchen team and presented by our friendly service staff, the Swan on the River is the perfect spot to enjoy some free time with a wonderful riverside view and a hearty meal.
