Giffnock is a fairly prosperous Glasgow suburb some five miles south of the city centre & this site on Fenwick Road has been a restaurant of sorts for many years. It morphed into The Giffnock Ivy in late 2000, survived a couple of subsequent changes of ownership & was again taken over in spring 2008, & given a very smart bistro feel from new owners. This extends to the menu, which might offer asparagus with citrus emulsion & mixed leaves, before salmon on lemon & thyme-crushed potatoes with salsa verde, & a trio of vanilla & cherry ice cream & rhubarb sorbet for dessert. Giffnock locals love the place & it’s great value: the three-course pre-theatre menu (£13.95) is available all evening on Tuesday & Wednesday.
