SquareMeal Review of The Dog & Duck

Constable decreed it pretty as a picture, lady of the manor Madonna has supped here & George Orwell (in whose honour the fading 1950s-style upstairs saloon is named) famously went on a bender to celebrate the American success of Animal Farm. Celebrity status aside, The Dog & Duck is worth cherishing for its exquisite glazed tiling, decorative mosaics & brilliant etched glass – even if its layout is hardly user-friendly. Timothy Taylor Landlord, a rotating range of cask-conditioned ales such as Brains’ Milkwood, & bargain plonk go down well with pies, fish & chips & familiar international favourites such as deep-fried Brie, calamari & haloumi salad. The name, meanwhile, is a reference to Soho’s past as a swampy hunting ground. No change there, then.
