SquareMeal Review of
Back in the 60s, the old thatched barn attached to this 15th-century country boozer was one of the hottest gigs in Oxfordshire, with big-name acts, a dance floor & even a special post-midnight
drinks licence. These days, attention focuses on the pub itself & its daily roster of classic grub: deep-fried whitebait & beer-battered haddock meet goats’ cheese & onion marmalade
tart, a warm salad of smoked bacon & black pudding or breast of chicken stuffed with brie. There are also sandwiches & ploughman’s at lunchtime, while the most popular sweet is sticky
toffee pud with toffee sauce & cream – closely followed by crème brûlée. Thumbs-up for the modest prices & welcoming atmosphere, too.
