The Bottlery Grill House 1

231 Earl’s Court Road , London, SW5 9AH

SquareMeal Review of The Bottlery Grill House

There’s a surprising dearth of decent wine bars in increasingly gentrified Earl’s Court, but this unpretentious spot helps boost the quota. The wine list holds ample interest either side of £30 and is split equally between New and Old World producers, with bottles displayed in elegant tall units along one wall. The relaxed, convivial mood is further enhanced by soft lighting, a toffee and sage colour scheme and warm woods. Kick back with classic cocktails, a pint of Guinness, Belgian or West London-brewed beer – or sip full-bodied Burgundy, ripe Riesling, or a plump Pinot G. The bar opens for breakfast, and at other times serves appetising burgers (from £8), Caesar or seafood salad, steaks and German wursts. Otherwise, pick at snacks of garlic prawns, calamari, or beetroot and goats’ cheese salad. One gripe: on our visit, a TV screen of Orwellian dimensions was showing a match totally ignored by customers.
