The Beautiful Mountain attracts Aberdeen’s city-centre shoppers & workers with its splendid range of daytime food. Buy from the ground-floor takeaway or chill out in the upstairs café – an unfussy space with chunky wooden tables & enthusiastic young staff. Kick-start your morning with a breakfast stack (bacon, black pudding, egg & sausage on ciabatta) or one of the best veggie spreads north of the border (cheese sausages, chilli sweetcorn pancakes, eggs, mushrooms, potato scone, tomatoes & toast). At lunchtime, you might go for lentil soup or one of their great sandwich-bar snacks: prawn & avocado on a sourdough roll or a wrap with hoummos & char-grilled red peppers. Many of the fillings also double up as salads. For afternoon tea, try a pot of Earl Grey with a slice of banana bread. There’s also a limited range of alcoholic tipples.
