SquareMeal Review of The Anchor

A full refurb has bought this long-established Cambridge riverside watering hole bang up to date as a trendy gastropub, complete with wood panelling and Farrow & Ball colour schemes. The multi-level downstairs space keeps things casual for drinkers, while a relaxed dining area upstairs offers a modern menu of classics with adventurous twists – think slow-roasted pork belly with harissa or rack of lamb with mint mash and broad beans. By contrast, desserts are traditional favourites such as sticky toffee pudding. A well-balanced and reasonably priced wine list covers everything from Pinot Grigio to Pinot Noir, whilst two long bars ensure fans of cask ales never go thirsty either. Ask for a window seat when booking or fight for one of the popular terrace tables for the best view of novice punters struggling on the adjacent millpond.
