Set on the Grand Union Canal at Paddington Central, a short walk from Paddington Station, Smith's Bar & Grill is a modern British restaurant and bar with a bright dining room and a large canal-side terrace. Head chef David Reyes leads a kitchen built around Scottish beef dry-aged for 28 days and seasonal seafood. With floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings and hanging foliage and wicker lanterns overhead, the restaurant has a distinctly modern feel - a mix between a classy New York-style bar and a modern bistro.
The a la carte opens with Maldon rock oysters, beef tartare and pan-fried scallops with Jerusalem artichoke puree, followed by whole sea bass with harissa, crab linguine, wild boar ragu and sirloin, fillet and rib eye steaks. Vegetarians can opt for onion tarte Tatin or ricotta and spinach ravioli, and for dessert there’s chocolate tart with chilli and mascarpone, vanilla Basque cheesecake or rum baba. On Friday and Saturday evenings, a seven-course tasting menu can be paired with wines chosen by head sommelier Maurizio Titone, and oysters at the bar are priced at just £1 each. Children are welcome too, with a dedicated kids’ menu and high chairs.
Smith's Bar & Grill menus cover all occasions. On weekdays, a two or three-course set lunch draws on the a la carte, with dishes such as French onion soup, beef carpaccio, char-grilled baby chicken and picanha steak with chunky chips. To help you start your day off right, there's also a wide selection of breakfast dishes covering all the classics. Options range from eggs Benedict to a full English breakfast, alongside other fun options, like crab and sweetcorn pancakes with amarillo hollandaise.
Saturdays, meanwhile, bring a bottomless brunch with a live DJ and Sundays a bottomless roast, with free-range chicken, lamb shank or mushroom Wellington served alongside duck fat roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.
