SquareMeal Review of
Redmond's Restaurant at Carden Park Hotel
You don’t have to have played a round of golf at this grand country club-style hotel to enjoy the northern generosity that runs through the whole outfit. The warm attitude of the staff at Redmond’s – not to mention the menu – means you'd be hard pushed to leave hungry. A roll call of modern British classics, the menu includes haddock and chorizo risotto or chargrilled mackerel with cardamom-scented carrots, followed by duck confit with samphire or crispy belly pork with apple and celeriac remoulade. Ask for a table in the conservatory to make the most of views over a sunken garden and the grounds beyond, or hum along to the pianist’s collection of classic show tunes on a Saturday night. If it all seems a bit formal, an on-site alternative is the more casual but very pleasant Vines restaurant, where the drink of choice is a glass of Carden Old Gold sparkling wine, produced from grapes grown on the estate.
