"GOOD"

This relaxed, all-day canalside boozer is the latest project from Bocca di Lupo’s Jacob Kenedy, who has thrown London a bit of a curveball here: known for Italian restaurants, Kenedy serves up Louisiana-style Cajun and Creole food at Plaquemine Lock. The name refers to a lock in the area which enabled timber and the like to be transferred from the Bayou to the Mississipi in the early 1900s. So what? Well, Kenedy’s great grandmother opened that lock in 1909 and therein lies his decision to specialise in oysters, boiled crawfish, po’ boys and gumbo. The menu makes room for the likes of bacon-wrapped oysters, spiced and charred chicken, spiced and crispy pork belly nuggets and, of course, grits. A separate kid’s menu marks this out as family-friendly territory, but maybe don’t share the New Orleans-style cocktails or London cask and keg beers with them.
