SquareMeal Review of Peridot at the Bentley Hotel (afternoon tea)

From the moment the dapper, top-hatted doorman says ‘good afternoon’, it’s clear that five-star attention to detail defines the Bentley experience. Residents of the ‘Royal Borough’ regard this auspicious member of the Hilton group as their little secret – tucked away on a leafy residential street part way between the King’s Road and Knightsbridge. Served in the Lounge and summery, light-filled Peridot brasserie, the Bentley tea (£25, or £35 with a glass of Moët) shows off the kitchen’s highly accomplished pastry section at its best: anything ‘chocolaty’ is usually a winner, although the whole feast runs to an array of sandwiches, homemade scones and exquisite-looking fancies. Alternatively, you can go à la carte for toasted crumpets with cheese and celery or a selection of moreish cakes. Leaf teas include heady jasmine pearls and smoky lapsang souchong.
