London’s newest Hilton has that smart, raw edge that makes urban London cool, and its restaurant and bar follows suit. The mustard-coloured dining room, all bare brickwork and metal screens and Tube Station tiles, has a modern British menu with name-checked sourcing to match: cider-marinated salmon with Cornish monkfish cheeks and sirloin of Gloucestershire beef are just some of the options. The Distillery bar pays homage in name to the C19 essence factory that stood on the site, and makes mileage out if its name with in-house aromatics, infusions and bitters – try them in cocktails or straight up, while nibbling on toothsome bar snacks – five-spice dusted crisp pork belly or hummus with garlic bread. As you leave, check out the wall installation, which gives a whole new meaning to spending a penny.

Located inside the Hilton Bankside, OXBO Bankside is nicely designed with various different areas and table types to choose from. We loved the large open-plan kitchen allowing guests to observe their dishes being created. The service was friendly, and there is a good varied menu on offer.We started the evening with a couple of fine glasses of Chapel Down Vintage Reserve, Brut from Kent, England, as an aperitif.
