Squaremeal Review of Motcombs ?

On any given day, the bar at Motcomb’s will be resounding to well-bred voices of a certain age, chatting and laughing together, with overspill around the pavement tables on warm summer evenings. Everyone seems to know each other here, an illusion reinforced by the “amazing” staff, who are sensitive enough to know when to chat and when to leave well alone. Old and new money rub along happily, drinking wine, Champagne and the odd cocktail from a “cracking” list and tucking into an “affordable” menu of pretty smart, user-friendly food such as a salad of scallops, prawn and crispy bacon, lobster linguine, chicken parmigiana and so on. The “half-price lobster and fries special on Friday is a delight, as are the eggs Benedict on any day”, exhorts one fan. In short, an “absolutely perfect gem” and an oasis of old-fashioned Anglo-Irish charm off very international Lowndes Square.

What a wonderful place for lunch! I have been here several times on business lunches and enjoyed it every time. The staff are charming, friendly and helpful. The food is consistently good and the service is prompt and polite. Yes there is a corporate air to the place at lunchtimes and a slight feel of a gentleman's club but for a business lunch thats perfect in my opinion. The smoked salmon starter is just divine with the unusual twist of zesty grapefruit and ginger. The gilled scallops are also...

Hearty greetings from the locals at the bar, slipping down below the iconic neon sign into a large, but intimate basement dining room aglint with crystal and decked with art for superb grub and bubbles is a rather special and, sadly, disappearing experience.
Motcombs, now Belgravia’s unashamedly most famous restaurant, opened in 1982 and is the fiefdom of Philip Lawless, a genial host, and as well as a place he actually eats, showcases his wonderful and eclectic art.

I love a good old fashion glam dining now and then. It reminds me when we use to go to restaurants, and we understood the menu straight away - No fuss and no fancy wording. I enjoyed an animated and incredibly beautiful dinner with my friends Tracey, Jeanne and Alan at Motcombs.
Eating at Motcombs in the Belgravia area of London is quite an experience. It is nestled between 5-star hotels, Harvey Nichols and designer shops, the likes of Christian Louboutin.
