SquareMeal Review of Loch Fyne Woodside Ascot

Loch Fyne bucks the trend among national chains by offering a food & wine experience well above its high-street station. Selections from its recent menus such as hake with samphire, smoked salmon ‘sashimi-style’ with wasabi & soy, or ‘bradan rost’ with couscous salad, mango & coriander are dishes you might expect in flash big-city eateries – not in simply attired, accessible town-centre restaurants where ‘the food is reasonably priced & generously served’. This chain also caters for more traditional tastes, witness whitebait, mackerel pâté, fish & chips or fisherman’s pie alongside the group’s raison d’être – sustainably sourced oysters, mussels & langoustines from Loch Fyne itself. Most of the globetrotting wine list is available by the glass, with credible, fish-friendly pours including Albariño & Grüner Veltliner.

I am generally a big fan of Loch Fyne chain, having been to the one in Cambridge and Portsmouth. So naturally once we had to find a good place to hang out with the friends after the Acot races and I have seen the LF in the vicinity, I immediately went for it and didn't regret. The seafood is impeccable, the environment is very relaxed, we had a really hospital and attentive manager to welcome us in and a great waiter Louis to advise and attend to us. Our total bill was below 200 quid for 5 people, for what was basically a 3-course meal with 2 bottles of wine, which in my opinion was quite cheap. Definitely recommend the place for anyone going to Windsor or Ascot.
