Richard and Margaret Hewat has been in residence at this smart Southside bistro since 2005 and are now well established in the city’s restaurant scene. A bright red and blue frontage gives way to a
vivid interior complete with big prints, ruby-red furnishings and glittering chandeliers, with a plush private area hidden behind thick drapes. Margaret oversees business out front, while Richard
heads up the kitchen. Scottish ingredients have their say on a menu that looks to Europe for most of its inspiration – think beetroot carpaccio with warm goats’ cheese and rocket salad, braised
collops of Aberdeen Angus beef with parsnip purée and red wine jus or herb-crusted fillet of coley with sun-blush tomato and basil sauce. Tiramisu crème brûlée is a typical dessert, or you could
share a mini selection. Midweek deals and early-bird menus are worth noting.
