Formerly Le Mazot, Grey’s Brasserie gives visitors to Whatley Manor the option of please-all international food in the relaxed, easy surrounds of a mock-up Swiss chalet – with the bonus of eating alfresco on the ‘kitchen garden terrace’ in fine weather. The menu makes familiar reading, although the food arrives via the same kitchen that also serves the hotel’s two-Michelin-starred Dining Room. Limber up with homemade sausage rolls or breaded whitebait while considering the day’s offer – a concise line-up of seasonal ideas ranging from omelette Arnold Bennett, beef tartare or creamy smoked mussels on toast with cider vinaigrette to braised beef cheek with parsnip, pak choy and sesame, roasted sea bream with baby cabbage and sauce vierge or hand-cut pappardelle with Jerusalem artichokes and wild mushrooms. There are steaks with sauces too, plus various puds including banana soufflé or warm chocolate brownie with salted caramel and stout ice cream.
