Determined to stand out from the crowd, Curry Leaf East makes an immediate impact with its high ceilings and suave, elegant design – note the imposing wooden ‘gateway’ arch that leads to the rear of the restaurant. Don’t expect the standard line-up of curry house staples, either: intriguing starters could see spicy chicken livers with basil or clove- and cinnamon- infused lamb grilled and drizzled with saffron, ahead of xacuti chicken (with fresh coconut and poppy seeds) or a seafood curry from Alleppey in Kerala (with shredded ginger and mango), all backed by the usual veggie sides, breads and a functional drinks selection. Dedicated fans continue to be impressed, and the restaurant’s air-con must surely be one of the most powerful in London. It’s worth taking advantage of the £10 two-course lunch offer, too.
