SquareMeal Review of
Butchies’ highly successful street-food stall, which started off on Broadway Market in 2014, combined two trends: posh sandwiches and fried chicken. It was a simple but brilliantly executed formula that caught on so well they’ve now launched the concept on a permanent site in Camden Stables - easily identifiable thanks to its arresting red and white frontage. Four chicken sandwiches - all named after cult indie film and TV characters - make up the tight, focused menu in this pared-back venue. All feature the creators’ much loved free-range, buttermilk-fried birds in a squishy, butter-toasted bun; filling variations range from the best-selling Dale Cooper (with juicy pickles and homemade aioli) to the Margot Tenenbaum (fried halloumi, guacamole and smoked-chilli mayo) - sides such as cheese-topped fries and crispy wings slathered in blue cheese and buffalo sauces provide worthy accompaniment. Service, too, is charming and enthusiastic - a happy legacy from those market beginnings.
