SquareMeal Review of
Cambridge’s best burger is served up at the brilliantly named Butch Annie’s, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it underground joint near the market square. The once-dingy café has been transformed into a New York-style hipster dive complete with graffiti and a long bar that gets regular use when weekend crowds are waiting to be seated. The youthful staff eat the brioche-bunned burgers every day, so they are well informed and enthusiastic about the short but interesting menu (although some get distracted on occasion). Star billing should go to the Topsy Turvy, an ibérico pork patty with a delicious apple sauce, or, for the traditionalist, the Lewd Lizzie: a beef patty with a sauce described as ‘smokin’’. There are plenty of craft lagers, ales and ciders for liquid accompaniment, and even – yee-haw! – a couple of bourbons.
