Readers appreciate the affable “family-run” vibe at this neighbourhood eatery on one of Ipswich’s main thoroughfares – not to mention the owners’ “nothing is too much trouble” approach to things. Occupying an old timbered building with lots of exposed woodwork, unfussy decor and a pretty courtyard out back, At Twenty5 deals in accessible bistro cooking with a noticeable Mediterranean slant and a feel for carefully sourced ingredients – perhaps sun-dried tomato arancini with pesto, pulled pork with sticky plum sauce or chicken and wild mushroom tagliatelle. Other options such as Thai king prawn curry or battered cod and chips cast the net wider, while huge desserts rely heavily on chocolate and calories – think brownies, cheesecakes, tortes etc. Service is prompt, prices are fair and the succinct wine list promises decent drinking across the range. “Worth the drive from Essex”, notes one fan.
