The Woolpack Inn in Totford offers private dining with the ease of a country pub and the allure of a destination restaurant. Set in Hampshire’s Candover Valley, the four-star inn is well suited to birthdays, family gatherings, business lunches and intimate celebrations, with a dedicated private dining room that gives smaller groups their own space without losing the character of the wider venue.
The pub has multiple spaces that can be used for private dining celebrations including the snug, bar, Orangery, and restaurant. If you want a full-venue takeover, you can host up to 130 people across all of these areas, or a central seated meal can be arranged for up to 70 people. There's also a private terrace which in the warmer weather provides a sun trap for guests to mingle outside.
Menus can be tailored around the group, drawing on ingredients from The Woolpack’s kitchen garden as well as trusted producers within a 50-mile radius. The restaurant’s cooking is seasonal, produce-led and grounded in familiar dishes handled with care. A private meal might begin with lighter plates before moving into mains such as The Woolpack salad, finished with confit garlic emulsion, parmesan and panko, with the option to add chicken or burrata.
More substantial choices include The Woolpack Burger with streaky bacon, Monterey Jack, pickles and seasoned fries, or Orchard Thieves-battered haddock served with chunky chips, crushed peas, lemon and tartare sauce. Hand-rolled pappardelle with Amalfi lemon and pecorino brings a fresher, vegetarian note, while Cornish cod is paired with courgette, leek, confit potato and apple. Seasonal additions, including black truffle or caviar, can give the meal an extra sense of occasion.
Eight boutique bedrooms allow guests to stay overnight, making the inn especially practical for family occasions and celebrations.
