About

Private dining at The Rupert Brooke in Grantchester offers the perfect balance of atmosphere, history, and exceptional food, making it a standout choice for special occasions just outside Cambridge. Whether you’re hosting a milestone birthday, an intimate wedding celebration, a business lunch, or simply gathering friends and family, the restaurant provides an elegant yet relaxed setting that can be tailored to your event.

The Rupert Brooke has been designed with memorable experiences in mind. From the moment guests are greeted at the door, every detail has been carefully thought through — from the open brasserie-style kitchen that frames the cooking, to the intelligent décor, crisp linen napkins, and carefully curated wine list. The upstairs dining room with its adjoining balcony offers a particularly versatile option for private hire, allowing you to enjoy a sit-down meal, a buffet, or even a party with drinks and music. For larger occasions, full venue hire is also available, creating the opportunity to have the entire restaurant to yourself.

Food, of course, is at the heart of the experience. Head Chef Matthew King, who has over 15 years of culinary expertise, leads the kitchen with a focus on quality and seasonality. Weekly visits to London’s meat and fish markets ensure only the best produce is sourced, while strong links with local suppliers mean ingredients are fresh, sustainable, and full of flavour. The menus change with the seasons, featuring a bistro-inspired mix of classics and modern creations, from monkfish tail with chorizo and samphire to Grantchester Mess, a playful nod to the village’s name.

Owner Pasquale Benedetto brings decades of Cambridge hospitality experience, ensuring service is warm, attentive, and polished. Drinks are equally well considered, with craft beers, a house Rupert Brooke Pilsner, and cocktails alongside wines from local merchants such as Peter Graham Wines.

With its idyllic riverside village location, stylish interiors, and a team passionate about creating unforgettable moments, The Rupert Brooke offers one of Cambridge’s most distinctive private dining experiences. It’s the ideal place to gather, celebrate, and enjoy food and drink done exceptionally well.

Testimonials for The Rupert Brooke

85th BirthdayAUGUST, 2025

A group of 20 celebrating an 85th birthday had a fabulous experience even during a very busy Sunday lunchtime. This delightful place was buzzing as we were impeccably served with champagne, wine, drinks and 3 course meals, all exactly as pre-ordered. Particular thanks to Pascky, Manager Will, waitresses and superb chef and staff behind the scenes for making this such a memorable and special occasion. The Rupert Brooke has reached new heights under this fresh ownership and is a gem among restaurants.

Visited for a birthday event with 30 people. The staff were phenomenal and that was only matched by the quality of the food which was exceptional given the size of the group. Can’t recommend highly enough to anyone looking for super friendly, high quality dining and drinks in Cambridge. A massive thanks to all of the team including Pasque / Max and William ??
