Mayfair is certainly the place to go if you're looking for a private dining venue that's likely to be a feast on the eyes as well as the palate, but there aren't many restaurants - even in this lux sector of London - that hold a candle to The Maine's glamorous interiors. This historic Mayfair townhouse has been given more than a touch of New England grandiosity, with patterned upholstery on the chairs and banquettes, rich, dark wood furniture, Hollywood regency sofas and a magnificent chandelier that draws focus. This just refers to the Brasserie - The Maine's cabaret club and dining room, which is available to hire for private dinners for up to 90.
There are a variety of other spaces in the townhouse, all with very different vibes. Compared to the OTT, grandiose Brasserie, the Tavern is much more intimate. This speakeasy is tucked away in the brick-vaulted cellar and makes a perfect space for a cosy dinner of up to 12 guests. There's extra room along the zinc bar for more casual standing events with drinks and canapes.
The Drawing Room is altogether lighter, brighter and more laid-back than the moody Brasserie. This room was once the drawing room of the Duke of Montrose, and it has been reimagined as a low-key spot, with another stunning capiz shell chandelier and opulent banquettes, for private and corporate dinners of up to 30 guests.
Last but certainly not least, the Terrace is the largest private dining area of the lot with capacity for 100 guests, and also boasts it's own entrance on Hanover Square. Despite being open air, the terrace is covered and heated and enveloped by plenty of greenery, so you can enjoy dinner al fresco without being exposed to the elements. The Maine offers a variety of group set menus, with a focus on fresh seafood and grill dishes, as well as a canape menu.
