If you’re searching for an intimate private dining venue in Edinburgh, The Little Chartroom offers a refined yet welcoming space that perfectly captures the warmth and charm of modern Scottish dining. Located in Bonnington, this family-run restaurant is the creation of chef-owner Roberta Hall-McCarron and her husband Shaun, who have built a reputation for thoughtful, elegant dishes inspired by Roberta’s upbringing and her memories of sailing Scotland’s rugged coastline.
The decor is understated and elegant, with black-topped wooden tables, soft lighting and neutral tones creating a calm, cosy atmosphere. Guests can choose to dine in the main restaurant or at the kitchen counter, where they can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen.
Menus are shaped by the seasons and showcase the finest local ingredients from trusted Scottish producers, farmers and fishermen. Available as three or five-course set menus for lunch or dinner, each dish celebrates quality and creativity. Starters might include Chalkstream trout tartare or Dundas Estate hare with black pudding, beetroot and pickled walnut, while mains could feature dishes such as Mangalitsa pork with pancetta and wild mushrooms, North Sea cod with leeks and artichokes, or Chalkstream trout with artichoke and prawn butter.
Vegetarian options such as chickpea pancake with courgette, sunflower seeds and miso-cured tofu receive the same careful attention. Desserts include delights such as brown sugar tart with sour cream, cardamom and lime, or damson trifle with vanilla, ginger and pecan.
While there is no separate private dining room, The Little Chartroom can be hired exclusively for special occasions or group dinners or larger tables can be booked for group dining, offering a truly intimate setting for family celebrations, business lunches or private events in the heart of Edinburgh.
