Pompette is a small French restaurant and wine bar in Summertown, Oxford, offering a dedicated private dining space alongside full restaurant hire for larger events. Run by husband and wife team Pascal and Laura Wiedeman, it focuses on seasonal, ingredient-led cooking, with everything made from scratch, from sauces and stocks through to freshly baked baguettes.
Upstairs, the private dining room provides an intimate setting for smaller gatherings. Seating between eight and twelve guests comfortably, or up to fourteen at a squeeze, the space is exclusively yours, with a dedicated member of the team on hand throughout. It works well for family celebrations, birthdays or group dinners with friends or colleagues, with a children’s menu also available, making it a flexible option for mixed groups.
The room itself has a cosy, characterful feel, with dark walls and ceilings, exposed brick and a mix of eclectic artwork. Leather booth seating runs along one side, while a large wooden banquet table sits at the centre. Glass pendant lighting and touches of greenery soften the look, while a large window brings in natural light. For larger events, the entire restaurant can be hired exclusively, with space for up to 60 guests, creating a more open and sociable setting.
Private dining menus begin with an arrival drink and snacks such as olives, salted almonds and ham and manchego croquettes. Starters might include roast pumpkin burrata with chilli and pine nuts or fish soup, followed by mains such as duck egg with black truffle or roast sirloin of beef with seasonal sides. Desserts include panna cotta or choux buns, followed by tea, coffee and petit fours, with the option to add a cheese course.
Drinks include a curated wine list, alongside cocktails such as Negronis and Aperol Spritz, as well as beers, ciders, spirits, soft drinks and a selection of teas and coffee.
