With its prime Soho location, Maki & Ramen offers group bookings and semi-private hire complete with a VIP area and a Japanese Garden space. Known for its casual but considered interiors, laid-back atmosphere, and traditional Japanese ramen, sushi, and maki (along with much more), Maki & Ramen Soho stands as a go-to for social celebrations with friends or colleagues.
Interiors are modern and playful, featuring a wall of verdant green moss, colourful post-its that bear cute and funny messages, and a floral installation serving as a canopy hanging above booth tables in the main restaurant space. As for private dining at Maki & Ramen Soho, the VIP area can accommodate up to 20 seated guests and offers a great spot to celebrate birthdays, graduations, or other important milestones. The Japanese Garden, meanwhile, can seat up to 50 for larger dinners.
Founded by Teddy Lee, the Maki & Ramen brand has since expanded with multiple locations across the UK. This one, on Old Compton Street, opened in February 2026, offering a lovely, affordable location for group dining while out in Soho or the nearby theatre district. And while the prices are pleasing, the team here (which includes a brigade of highly skilled sushi chefs) doesn’t cut corners.
You might kick off your group or private dinner here with the likes of gyoza, takoyaki, edamame or spicy chicken teriyaki, before heading on to sushi rolls. Here, the menu covers a lot of ground, including classic California rolls, avocado rolls, and spicy tuna, alongside nigiri and more unusual options like volcano rolls, which sees tempura prawn filling with spring onion, matched with fried onions, togarashi and shredded chilli. Ramen, however, throws up a whole load of comforting options, including the signature tonkotsu with chashu pork, spring onion, bamboo, wakame and egg. Maki & Ramen Soho also offers plenty of halal, vegetarian and vegan options too.
