About Hinds Head

SquareMeal Review

A private room can be useful for all sorts of purposes, from business meetings to celebrations, but we find that whatever the occasion, these events are always a lot more memorable when the food is exceptional. Cue Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head and its dedication to serving creative reinventions of classic British dishes – both famous and the unjustly forgotten – all cooked with exceptional skill and outstanding culinary imagination.

Set within the picturesque village of Bray, famous on account of its one-time vicar, Simon Aleyn, and his ever-changeable religious beliefs, Hinds Head is about as British as it gets. This beautiful pub has been serving residents and visitors since the 1400s when it was first established as a hunting lodge and coaching inn, and is as popular today as it ever was thanks to its comfortable interiors, knowledgeable staff and outstanding food and drink offering.

Small gatherings of up to 20 guests will find The Vicar’s Room affords every comfort for both meetings and private dining. Decorated in rich reds and chandeliers and equipped with a flat screen TV, a whiteboard/flipcharts, and a striking dining table hewn from a single piece of oak, The Vicar’s Room is an impressive private room whatever the occasion.

If you require a semi-private space, The West Room located on the ground floor is a comfy area that’s suitable for seated lunches and dinners of up to 34 guests. The venue also has parking available, disabled access, Wifi, and AV equipment should you need it.

Pre-lunch or dinner drinks can be enjoyed in The Royal Lounge if desired, and there are a number of menus to choose from for your private lunch or dinner. Menus change according to the seasons, but the chefs will do their best to incorporate your requests and adhere to any dietary requirements your party may have.

If you're looking for somewhere special to host an important celebration, consider Michelin-starred restaurant Hinds Head in Berkshire. This historic inn has been a place to meet and dine for hundreds of years, with the site dating back to the 1400s. In 2004, Heston Blumenthal took over with a mission to preserve its storied past, share a menu of traditional British cuisine with a classic Blumenthal twist and offer a selection of unique private dining spaces.

From the Michelin-starred menu to the idyllic setting in the village of Bray, this is a gorgeous place to enjoy a special occasion. As well as the main restaurant, there are two private dining rooms that you can book for your party. The Royal Lounge is a charming space, perfect for getting together with friends or clients in a beautiful, informal setting. Across the room you'll find a mix of historical ornaments with a 'cabinet of curiosities' feel, such as the Cockentrice. This magical beast with the head of a boar and the body of a turkey, was found personally by Heston and woven into the fabric of the room. You can enjoy a selection of snacks and drinks, such as devils on horseback, alongside mushroom parfait on grilled campaillou and ham hock croquettes with sauce gribiche.

Then, there's The Vicar's Room; a luxurious, scarlet-hued space characterised by 15th-century beams, gold gilded paintings and lit by candlelight. This is the place for a dinner you won't forget, with seating for between 10 and 20 people. Here, you can enjoy a selection of three, four and five-course menus, which all change seasonally. You're also welcome to use both spaces, perhaps serving canapes and drinks in one, and dinner in another, as well as hiring the entirity of Hinds Head if the occasion calls.
