Opened by twins Arian and Alberto Zandi, El Norte delights Mayfair’s foodies with elevated Spanish fare. Step in from the busy streets and you’ll be greeted by a beautiful art-deco space, with table lamps, backlit shelves of wine and a plush cocktail lounge. In the lounge, the resident DJ plays Spanish sounds and electronica, while mixologists shake up punchy pre-dinner cocktails. For those seeking private dining in Mayfair, this restaurant can host up to 50 guests for a lavish three-course meal.
The cocktails here are certainly not to be missed, providing the perfect start to your private dinner. For something fruity, try the cupido - a blend of raspberry vodka, Tio Pepe, strawberry, basil and cava. Or, for something a little earthier, try the smoked bacon old fashioned, made with rye whiskey, chocolate bitters, bacon and wood smoke. Alternatively, plump for a jug of sangria, featuring either white, red or sparkling wine.
The food here starts decadent and doesn’t slow down. Launch the evening’s proceedings with oysters, gazpacho and Padron peppers, as well as meatier options like croquetas, jamon Iberico or wagyu bao. Don’t miss the signature truffle tortilla with manchego before moving on to the main event. Meat takes centre stage here, with options including beef fillet with foie gras, marinated baby chicken or premium basque ribeye. From the sea, you’ll find similarly lavish options like a wild Dover sole, grilled octopus with mash and Denia red king prawns with olive oil and garlic.
To finish, try the truffle, honey and manchego cheesecake, chestnut mousse with toffee or classic churros with chocolate. For a more savoury option, there is also a Spanish cheese board available. There is an extensive wine list, offering a range of high-end Spanish bottles to accompany your meal, as well as some from the rest of the world. Highlights include a 2010 Dom Perignon, as well as an enticing Catalonian Grenache.
