You might know it best as the first Permit Rooms to offer on-site accommodation, but did you know Permit Rooms also offers some of the best casual private dining in Notting Hill? Set on Portobello Road, private dining at Permit Rooms comes with classic Dishoom charm and menus to match.
Up on the first floor, just above the main dining room, you’ll find a characterful space with manus able to cater to a wide range of private dining events, from work celebrations to more social occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. If you’re hosting a sit-down private dinner, this area can accommodate up to 30 with party spread menus. Alternatively, for standing events, simply talk to the team about organising a range of snacks and nibbles for up to 50.
Dining for groups centres around the Party Spread, a very affordable group set menu designed for sharing. The menu kicks off with a selection of ‘snackery’ and ‘small-ish’ plates that reflect the spirit of Bombay permit rooms. Bowls of masala nuts arrive first, followed by crisp Punjabi-style vegetable samosas filled with potato, onion, peas, carrot, and crunchy onion bhajia served with a fresh green chutney. Other sharers include Permit Room fried chicken tossed in podi masala and lamb tawa kebabs, which involve super tender tawa-seared lamb keema patties with kachumber on the side.
Larger plates to share include the classic Dishoom chicken ruby, which features a rich makhani-style curry with tender chicken in a shimmering tomato sauce, alongside the signature black daal, slow-cooked for 24 hours until deeply flavoured and creamy. There’s also a vegan jackfruit berry pulao, which offers fragrant saffron rice, barberries, saltanas, and spiced jackfruit.
Sides include tenderstem broccoli with chilli and lime, plus both plain naan and garlic naan for scooping and sharing. To finish off your group dinner at Dishoom Permit Rooms, guests are served a warm chocolate brownie with malai, topped with jaggery sprinkles and a gentle chilli warmth.
