About School of Wok - Asian Cookery School

Looking for something a little out of the box for your next corporate event or team building? You've already done the local pub, bowling and organised a quiz for your team building events, perhaps now it's time to try something a little more... delicious?

The School of Wok has a fantastic location in the heart of the Strand making it the perfect spot for plenty of Central London-based businesses, as well as being close to major underground stations, national rail and bus routes for those located around the capital. If you're coming into London, you'll find plenty of hotels local to here, as well as restaurants, cafes, attractions and museums, if you want to make an extended trip of it.

The School of Wok are experienced in hosting corporate cookery classes and offer an impressive selection of options, depending on your party size, time constraints and the mood of your get-together. For example, there's the 'Cook For The Homeless' session, in which guests are schooled in making authentic spring rolls, black bean chicken and Hong Kong noodles, making enough for double portions which are later donated to a nearby homeless charity. Or, ignite your team's competitive spirit with the 'Ultimate Chef Challenge' which sees sub teams battle it out for the crown.

Personally, we're won over by the sound of the 'Operation China Town' which combines a treasure hunt to London's famous Chinatown, led by clues and tasty Asian treats, culminating in a competitive cookery event. What's a better way to ensure your team are working together, having fun and getting fed?

Or, if you have your own food-focused company and want to showcase new products or organise a tasting, you can hire the space for up to three hours, with use of two kitchens across two floors, and set the agenda yourself.

Chinese Masterclass with Verna Gao (@Vernahungrybanana)

25 Oct 2024

Verna, aka vernahungrybanana, is a home cook, content creator and influencer to 900k+ followers across TikTok and Instagram. Verna was born in Shanghai in the 1990s and moved to London in 2003 to live with her dad and stepmom after her parents’ divorce. Emotionally vulnerable and speaking very little English, Verna used cooking as a means of staying connected to her Chinese heritage. After leading an impromptu crash course in university to teach friends how to cook “real Chinese food” and a stint travelling all over East Asia collecting recipes and expanding her foodie horizons, lockdown gave Verna the opportunity to share her cooking with the world.

‘Have you eaten?’ (The title of Verna's cookbook) is a question commonly asked in Asian culture when you first greet someone; the answer will not only let you know if your friends or loved ones are hungry, but also how they are feeling. These three words also epitomise what cooking means to Verna; they are an expression of love, a way of working out if a bowl of something comforting can help improve a mood or circumstance. In Verna’s words, ‘to me and many others, food always makes life better.’

Thank you School of Wok - we had a brilliant afternoon! Lance was a fantastic host/teacher – he was so patient, very clear in his instructions and funny. The facilities were also great – you’re in a convenient location, and the kitchen was very clean and comfortable. And of course, the food was DELICIOUS.

Team Building DayJULY, 2024

Highly recommend this for a fun team building activity. The China town treasure hunt and bakery shopping ahead of the Thai cookery class were a perfect balance to a great day. Lots of chopping skills and top tips from a really engaging chef to create our own feast with copies of the recipes to then try and recreate ourselves at home! Wok's not to like?!!

A dream for our team!MAY, 2024

School of Wok you went beyond our expectations. We went for Beers and Bao's, and the whole experience was such a treat -- from the teaching of prep skills/tricks, to the cooking, to the eating! I can't recommend this enough for corporate events but I'd also love to come back with friends and family.Lance our instructor was excellent and ever so patient with the many other cooks in his kitchen :) There was plenty of drink and PLENTY of food! We loved it! Thank you.
