About Channing Hall

If you're looking for venue hire options in Sheffield and imagining a place that has charm, history and lots of space, have you considered Channing Hall? Built in 1881 by Sheffield Architects Flockton and Gibbs, it was originally intended to be used by the community - as it still is today.

The big draw of Channing Hall is its incredible interior architecture which includes Italianate-style glazed tile walls in a mix of soft blues and teals, complimented by a contrasting deep red and ornate cornicing and mouldings. Windows are huge and arched, flooding the space with light, while a central, wooden floor sits next to blue, patterned carpet which adds a charming, decorative feel.

As for logistics, the space is located on the first floor and while a spiral staircase had been the main route of access for years, a lift now makes things much easier. The capacity is 110 people and in terms of facilities, you can expect to enjoy use of free wifi as well as Bluetooth, MP3, a hearing loop, desk microphones, Audio / PA system, wireless microphone and lectern. This all makes Channing Hall the perfect place to host a conference, brand event or important meeting. While a digital projector and large, portable screen are also available for hire.

If you want to host a team-building lunch or even just prepare some small snacks and drinks, a hot water urn is free to use, while the kitchen can be hired seperately, which is especially useful if you're planning on bringing in a catering company. The kitchen includes a double sink, cooker with double oven and ceramic hob, as well as microwave and large fridge and freezer. Utensils and crookery will need to be brought in by yourself or your caterer, however.

For rates, bookings and more information, simply get in touch with the team and they'll be more than happy to help.

Testimonials for Channing Hall

Thank you!JULY, 2026

We wanted to say thank you so much for having us. We have all been saying how wonderful the venue you have is and how perfect it was for our event. We really appreciate everything you did for us with setting up the room, sorting the cups and projector – it made such a smooth and enjoyable day. We will definitely be booking with you again.

It has really been a treat to work with Channing HallJUNE, 2026

Channing Hall was the ideal space for our Talks & Sessions with the Documentary Festival. Comfortably hosting over 90 people during a Sheffield heatwave is a great feat and not an easy thing to do. The layout of the main room intrigued our visitors, many of whom were visiting Sheffield for the first time, and the high ceilings, windows and colours of the building made our sessions a really comfortable space to be. Photos can attest to the building's special charm, but that's not enough to explain what made the experience so memorable. What really made it special for our guests was the team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help keep our sessions running. I was privileged to work closely with Manager Patrick, and Teddy and Andy (supporting DocFest tech), who were calm and resourceful in the face of every minor disaster I brought to them. They were knowledgeable on technical issues, thoughtful around access for guests and, most of all, just great people to have around. On one occasion, when Sheffield reached 30 degrees celcius (a very rare occurrence!), cooling fans were quickly brought in from off-site for our guest speakers. At other times, when Q&A microphone issues arose, Andy and Teddy organised everything seamlessly to keep the session going. Suffice to say, the team was extremely accommodating. It has really been a treat to work with Channing Hall and I look forward to doing so again next year.

A wonderful venue to host our concertJANUARY, 2026

Upper Chapel was a wonderful venue to host our concert, Mediterranean Strings, with the Ciampa-Piccotti Duo. The acoustics in the space are naturally beautiful and very well suited for classical music. In addition, the staff at Upper Chapel were great to work with, taking care of concert details and warmly welcoming the artists and audience alike.

You have gone above and beyond for us MAY, 2025

I wanted to thank you for your help and support with our Order of St John Award Ceremony on 28th April. I have had some lovely feedback from my manager and colleagues about the venue. We would really love to hold our event with you next year, so I will be in touch later in the year to discuss availability. The gift of life given to strangers is an amazing gift and these awards are special recognition of that, for families who made the decision to agree to organ donation at the worst possible time imaginable for them. You have gone above and beyond for us and for them to make the ceremony run so well, and I sincerely thank you for this
