The Lismore

SquareMeal Review of The Lismore

Glasgow’s West End is well known for its bohemian air, students and café/bars where you can get anything from a breakfast thali to a cocktail in a teapot. However, if you’re looking for an amenable, traditional-style pub, The Lismore is ideal. Situated just round the corner from the bottom of Byres Road, the establishment takes its name from a small island in Argyll and the moniker is writ large on the frontage (Lios Mor is the Gaelic version). Inside you find two adjoining bars, predominantly wooden fixtures and fittings, and light flooding in through stained glass windows. There are a couple of real ales on tap, but the speciality here is single malt whisky, with dozens and dozens on offer – just the ticket for mellow afternoons and convivial evenings. Overall, this is a modern, boozy homage to Glasgow’s long-standing relationship with the Highlands & Islands.
